If you’ve ever wanted to send a customer directly to checkout with a specific product or combination of products already in their cart, WooCommerce just made that easier than ever. Their new feature, Shareable Checkout URLs, is a game changer for WooCommerce store owners looking to streamline the purchasing process.
What Are Shareable Checkout URLs?
Shareable Checkout URLs allow you to pre-fill a customer’s cart with specific products, quantities, and coupons and send them directly to the checkout page. It removes the extra clicks, confusion, and friction that can sometimes stop a customer from completing a purchase.
For example, let’s say you’re selling clothing and want to offer a special if a combination of products is bought in one order. With Shareable Checkout URLs, you can create a link that sends the customer straight to checkout with 3 hats and a sweater already in their cart. You can automatically apply a coupon too. All customer needs to do is complete payment.
Why This Matters
Every additional step in the buying process is an opportunity for someone to drop off. This feature helps you remove those barriers and shorten the path to purchase in certain situation.
It’s perfect for:
- Running promotions or flash sales
- Creating a one off bundle for a customer
- Selling bundles or pre-set product combinations
- Sending product links via email, text, or social media
How to Use It
Let’s say you have a hat with product ID 81 and a sweater with product ID 84.
Create A Shareable Checkout URL
To create a Shareable Checkout URL, you’ll need the product ID. The basic format looks like this:
mystore.com/checkout-link/?products=81
The link above will add one hat to the checkout page. There is no need to go to add to the cart first or click through the cart to check out.
One product added to the WooCommerce Checkout Page with a sharable checkout url.
Create A Sharable Checkout URL With Two Products
You can also add multiple products to the checkout by separating them with commas and matching quantities accordingly.
For example:
mystore.com/checkout-link/?products=81,84
This adds a hat and a sweater to the checkout page.
Two products added to the checkout page with a sharable checkout URL.
Where To Get Product IDs.
If you’re not sure how to find your product ID, head to the Products section in your WordPress dashboard. Hover over the product name, and you’ll see the ID appear below it.
To get the product ID for a product variation edit the product and click on variations. The ID for each variation is listed to the left of the variation drop-downs.
Specify A Quantity In The Sharable Checkout URL
If you want to specify the quantity of the product you can do so by adding a colon after the product’s ID and then specifying a quantity. For example, if you want three hats added to the checkout page the URL would look like this.
mystore.com/checkout-link/?products=81:3
A product with a quantity of three specified in the sharable checkout URL.
Apply A Coupon To The Sharable Checkout URL
If you want to apply a coupon to the shareable checkout URL you can do that by adding &coupon= and the coupon code after the product ID.
mystore.com/checkout-link/?products=84&coupon=20-percent-off
A coupon applied to the sharable product checkout URL.
Putting It All Together With Multiple Products, Quantities, and A Coupon
You can combine all of the examples above to have multiple products, quantities specified, and apply a coupon all in one sharable URL. The URL below will have three hats, the sweater in green size large, and the 20% off coupon.
mystore.com/checkout-link/?products=81:3,84&coupon=20-percent-off
Real-Life Application
Let’s say you’re a store owner running a special on hats. Instead of telling customers to “Go to our shop, scroll down, click on the hat, then add it to your cart,” you can send them a single link that says, “Click here to buy the hat now,” and they’ll land right on the checkout page with the product ready to go.
Final Thoughts
This new WooCommerce feature might seem small, but it’s powerful. It lets you create a frictionless experience for your customers, improve conversion rates, and drive more sales all with a simple link.
